Update: Cleanup has begun in Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton with many within its path still without power. Hurricane Milton Closing Terminals, Ports Leading to Delays across Florida
Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida, as a dangerous Category 3 storm before weakening as it cut through the state. Shipping delays, limited operations and closures continue to take place as mandatory evacuations and other safety measures have been put in place. Ports Expected to Open as East Coast Strike Suspends
The strike at East and Gulf Coast ports was suspended Thursday, October 3 with cargo operations at several ports expected to resume. Per a joint statement released by the International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance, a tentative deal on wages, an extension of their master contract until January 15, 2025 and to return to the bargaining table to negotiate all other outstanding issues has been reached.
This agreement puts an end to the three-day strike that began on Tuesday and shut down operations at several ports along the East and Gulf Coasts.

Dockworkers Initiate Strike at U.S. East and Gulf Coast Ports
As of Tuesday, October 1, the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) has begun a strike against the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX), impacting all 36 ports along the East and Gulf Coasts, and including nearly 50,000 members.
This strike is immediately expected to cause delays and capacity shortages, as alternative modes of transportation and routes become congested due to shifting volumes and lanes. Continued Closures as Post-Helene Cleanup Underway
The southeast continues to feel the impact of Hurricane Helene with many road closures and power outages continuing throughout the area particularly in Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee where part of interstates 26 and 40 remain closed. Transit times will likely be impacted as traffic is diverted around the impacted areas and as many LTL terminals remain close or have limited operations.
